Complete guide to upgrade to Twonky 7/8 version (My Book Live ONLY)

I tried to upgrade from 7.2.9 to 8.0.3 (twonky-powerpc-glibc-2.2.5-8.0.3.zip)

And I encountered the below error… I tried a few times by deleting the twonky folder and var/twonky, still no luck

NASKids:/usr/local/twonky# chmod +x twonky
NASKids:/usr/local/twonky# ./twonky start
Starting /usr/local/twonky/twonkystarter… 24212 (process ID) old priority 0, new priority 0
/usr/local/twonky/twonkystarter: /usr/local/twonky/twonkystarter: cannot execute binary file

I'm using the myCloud - I assume this is the same process as myBook Live?

I'd really appreciate your help

Hi, me again, I just tried the same thing on my second myCloud NAS using the upgrade method and recaied the following error:

NASMovies:/usr/local/twonky# /etc/init.d/twonky start
Starting /usr/local/twonkymedia-7/twonkystarter … 9685 (process ID) old priority 0, new priority 0
Daemonizing…
Detaching from parent

But when I start the media server I see the old 7.2.9 version

What am I doing wrong?

Regarding the two posts above, I have reinstalled the firmware which has got Twonky 7.2.9 back up and running. Could someone please tell me the process to upgrade from 7.2.9 to 8.0.3 (Do I use twonky-powerpc-glibc-2.2.5-8.0.3.zip)?

I know there are instructions at the start of this thread, however I assume that is for when you have upgraded from 5.x.x to 7.x.x???

Is myCloud the same as myBook - just a different name right?

You have upgrade process for 7.x to 7.xx , use the same for 7.x to 8.x

No myCloud is newer as myBook, don't have one so I can't tell if guide is ok for this model.

This kind of error is when different hardware is use.

This guide is for myBook, myCloud is different, don't know what version do you need to use.

You need to see the processor model in myCloud and download twonky for this processor.

According http://mybookworld.wikidot.com/my-cloud you need to download for ARM processor.

Suddently I am getting an "Your trial has expired"-error in 8.02. I have purchased a licence key, but Twonky just will not save it?!? What to do now?!? I have tried to put in the key via RPC, but no luck. Could someone please give me a guide to fix this?

Delete all files and directories related to Twonky. Then do the install process from the beginning. Use your paid-for key.

Upgrading to 8.03 seems to have fixed the problem. Very wierd indeed…

After i have installed the twonky version 8.1.0-RC2 Twonky can´t find any videos, music or Photos. The only message is "no disk". This happens after the new update for WD MBL and the reinstalling of Twonky 8.1.0-RC2. Befor that, everything works fine with 8.1.0-RC2. Any Ideas???

Hi, two problems…

1. Upgrading from 7.2.9 to 8.0.3 didn't work following the ver 7 to ver 7 (8) instructions as there is no Twonky folder, so I tried the Twonkymedia-7 folder. Seemed to be ok.
2. When starting Twonky I received this error… /etc/init.d/twonky: line 211: /usr/local/twonkymedia-7/twonkystarter: cannot execute binary file

So not sure if it's due to using the wrong zip file or unzipping it in the wrong folder.

Why would there be no Twonky folder yet Twonky was working?

Good day. I followed the instructions and it was fairly easy to update my MBLD. First I installed the 7.0.9 and it worked fine. The problem I have is that it crashed sometimes and I have to reinstall the program. I decided to upgrade to 8.0.2 and it worked fine. However, I have the same problem where it crashed or if there is a firmware upgrade it erases the program. Any suggestions?

For me it was working upgrade from ver. 5 to 8. BUT somehow at the setting page I put the password and somehow it is not working (I am pretty sure I did not forget but nevertheless the system won't log me in). Now when I want to do additional setting it always asks for password. I Reverted to old version 5 and reinstalled again ver. 8 but when i want to go to http:\\MyIPNumber:9000/webconfig it asks me for the password.

Can you PLEASE help me to retrieve password using putty or to completely delete ver.8 and reinstall it fresh hoping it will not ask for the password

Do you have a license key? if so, write it down. Then delete all the twonky directories where you did the install. Then do the install fresh from the beginning.

Yes I do have serial. I would really appreciate if you tell me in more details with commands for putty (like you did in your excellent manual). I am not familiar with Linux commands so I do not know how to remove it and in what folder.

When i log and do ls-la command I get this:

Try it without deleting the directories. Just reinstall the latest version (8.1), and then you should be prompted to enter the license key. See if that solves your problem. If not, then you will have to find the directories and delete them. Work backwards through the guide and you will see what directories to delete.
